Cozumel Beaches have changed over the years, but I've never seen a change in the look, feel, and style of a beach as much as I did today when I visited the new Playa Punta Morena (Easter Sunday, March 23rd 2008).
Hurricane Wilma knocked down much of the old structure and the rest was demolished by man. The picture above left was taken today and that is all that is left of the old Punta Morena. If you want to see what it used to be like you can visit my first Playa Punta Morena site here.
I am very certain that there are many that will enjoy the new and improved Playa Punta Morena. Especially if they have never seen South beach in Miami. |

One thing that will never change is the natural beauty of the beach. "Punta Morena" as we call it here locally has one of the most pristine beaches in all of Cozumel. So if you are looking for this you've definitely come to the right place. Here is picture of the beach facing north that was taken this morning. You can still see the remnants of what was the old structure.
The old lady that used to run the concession and who used to make the best fresh fish platter that I've ever eaten is not working for the new "beach club" anymore. Rumor has it that she is still on the island and has opened up somewhere else. |

Don't get me wrong. The new and improved facilities are actually VERY attractive. If you want to see a larger picture of the one on the left just click here. It will give you a better idea of what the new facilities look like.
The new beach has a much larger dining area with more seating, a children's play set, salt water wading pool, changing rooms, and many other extras that were not present in the old Punta Morena. The only thing that is missing is the old rustic charm that was part of my favorite beach. |

I'm also not opposed to change; in fact I am certain that there will be many that will like the new and improved Playa Punta Morena even better then the old one. I'm just a sentimental fool and I've spent too many hours of quality time with family and friends at this landmark beach; so I'm not quite ready to let go of those memories.
But if this is your first time here; it's time to give it a try and this will be your chance to make your very own history book chapter!! Ahh the excitement of new and different life experiences at one of mother natures best beaches!
