Cozumel, Mexico can save you money on those cold winter days!

Cozumel has seen many ups and downs over the years and so has the worlds financial markets. This year is particularly interesting. We do know that our world economy is not doing well; but as I was driving back from Cancun yesterday (January 22nd, 2009) I noticed something. I noticed that I just bought a brand new BBQ grill with all the bells and whistles on it, along with a bunch of other "stuff" at a 33% discount!! At that moment I realized that I should write this web page, to inform our readers of this incredible opportunity. I'm not sure how long it will take before inflation kicks in; but for now this is the deal of a lifetime!

Earlier this year the peso was trading against the USD (dollar) at 10 pesos to the dollar. In other words, if you exchanged your dollars, for every 10 dollars you spent, you would get 100 pesos. Simple enough, right? Well yesterday when I went to by my new BBQ, and flat panel TV (among other things) for every 10 dollars that I spent, I got $133.00 pesos. That means my dollar was worth over 33% MORE then I would have gotten just a few months ago! And the more that I bought, the more I saved! For the latest information on the peso exchange rate click here.

On top of that, oil has slipped below $44.00 per barrel. What does this mean? Well, this means that airfares are going to go down even further!

With Cozumel Mexico being so close to the USA and Canada there has never been a better time to get the best dollar/value ratio for your vacation holiday to our paradise island! And since the Euro is trading for more then the dollar these days, there has never been a better time to get the most out of your Euros as well. For this reason we are finding that tourism is actually up for many of the hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals for this season as well. Of course it doesn't hurt to be one of the top tourist destinations in the world. :-)

So on one of these cold winter mornings, or after a hard day at work, just remind yourself of one thing................ Where it is that I would rather be? Answer?

BRRRRRR! Cozumel, so warm so close!

Also remember that due to the high service charges by the credit card companies here in paradise; many establishments do not take credit cards. If you bring an ATM card don't forget your PIN number. There are many ATM locations throughout the island. This will insure that you get the very best exchange rate possible.

Some other key points to remember are:

  • Plugs and outlets for electrical supplies are the same as American standards. There is no need for special adapters.

  • Island casual is the normal dress code. You can leave the formal clothing behind if you like. Just don't forget your swimming attire!

  • If you are arriving via Cancun and will be crossing over by ferry, and if you are prone to sea sickness, take your motion meds upon landing.

  • Some people do not like to travel with a lot of cash and do not have PIN numbers for their credit cards. In that case travelers checks are still accepted here.

  • Travelers checks can be negotiated at a slightly lower exchange rate at any one of a number of "casa de cambios" located throughout the island.

  • Banks generally will only extend a maximum of $300 UDS on cash advances for credit cards.

  • Depending on your bank card limits (speak with your bank before coming) some banks will allow you to pull out as much as 11,000 pesos at the ATM's. The trick is to pull out 5,000 first and then on a second transaction pull out 6,000. The machine will not allow you to take the entire 11,000 pesos out at one time.

Historically, visitors to our tropical paradise have found this information to be very useful. I hope that you will find it useful as well.

After that, the only thing you have to think about is having a great vacation holiday! We look forward to your arrival.

Warm Regards,

Bob Rodriguez
