Cozumel Services Directory Cozumel Services Directory Cozumel Services Directory Cozumel Services Directory

Our Cozumel services directory is the most comprehensive and up to date on the island. Over our many years of living on Cozumel we are asked about almost everything.

"We are SCUBA divers and my husband has swimmers ear; can you help me find a doctor?"
"How do we call a taxi from our vacation rental?"
"I lost my passport; help!"
"We heard there is a direct flight from Cancun to Cozumel. Do you know about it?"

In response to these frequently asked questions we have compiled a list of services with directions, pictures and hyperlinks to assist you in navigating around Cozumel so that you will make the most of your vacation time. We will start with transportation services.

MayaAir is located at the Cozumel International Airport ( airport symbol CZM).Cozumel services - MayaAir, Cancun to Cozumel direct flights.

For years many visitors to Cozumel arrive via Cancun. Most will take the ADO bus, shuttle, or taxi from the airport to Playa del Carmen. From there they will take the Ferry across.

For those of you who wish to fly direct to and from Cancun to Cozumel we recommend MayaAir. The cost is about $50.00 each person/on way with a one way flight of about 25 minutes. Reservations can be made on-line or at either airport (Cancun's airport symbol is CUN/ Cozumel's symbol is CZM).

For additional information and links visit our Cozumel Airlines and airfares web site.

International PierThe people ferry is located on the Municipal Pier which is located on the water front, across from the main square.Ultramar and Mexico water jet

You now have three choices to make the crossing to and from the mainland (Playa del Carmen). One is Ultramar then there is the new service, Barcos Caribe (turquoise and pink), and the oldest is the Mexico Waterjets. Sometimes the Mexico Waterjets web site doesn't allow you to buy on-line but you can always buy tickets when you get here.

Ferry schedules are subject to change, but schedules are regularly updated on their web sites.

Taxis are plentiful here on the Island no matter how far you venture out. They are lined up in front of the people ferry pier, cruise ship terminals, grocery stores and beach clubs. Taking a taxi around town is very economical (around 3 dollars US in town). Taxi syndicateHowever, when driving around the Island, they can become a little pricey (up to 35 dollars one way to the other side of the island), but never-the-less, still handy and accessible. "Flagging" a taxi down in town, is cheaper than calling one directly from the syndicate. Rates initiating from the cruise ship terminals are predetermined, and you can ask a "taxista" to see his rate sheet before you drive off.

It is always a good practice no matter where you get a taxi to ask ahead of time what the cost will be.

Car Ferry pierCozumel's convenient car ferry is located just South of town, next to the white light house shown to the left. It is operated by Trans Caribe and goes from Cozumel to Calica on the mainland (just south of Playa del Carmen). Tickets are purchased on the opposite side of the street, down about 1/4 mile. There are generally up to 4 crossings daily with exception of Sundays which has 2. Car ferry terminalFor more information click on the lighthouse picture. A full schedule and information in English is available.

The photo on the lower left shows the Trans Caribe office located where you will buy your ticket. There is a guarded parking lot where you will park your vehicle prior to loading it onto the ferry.

The ADO Bus line office is located across the taxi syndicate on Calle 2 betweenADO bus service

5th and 10 streets. Purchase tickets here before you get to the Playa del Carmen office to be sure your trip is not sold out. This bus line has daily trips to and from the Cozumel Airport, Mayan ruins, cities such as Merida, and to many local tourist attractions on the mainland. It is a favorite among the locals as the rate is substantially less than taxi service. The busses are comfortable, have a potty, air-conditioning and are equipped with TVs that always have a movie running.

Mexican Immigrations officeCozumel Mexico's immigrations office is located on the corner of 15th and Calle 5 Sur. Normally, their logo is painted on the front of the building, but they are currently undergoing some remodeling.

Should you need to extend your stay, get working papers, a business visa etc., this is the office you will need to visit with your passport, of course. The office is bilingual, Spanish/English.

The Humane Society of Cozumel, Mexico is located at Ave. Claudio Canto Anduze, which is the street just south of the International Pier. Cozumel Humane SocietyTake a left and about a half mile down the road you will see the sign in the photo to the right. Just follow the Humane Society signs from there (it is a right and than left hand turn).

Facade of the Humane Society buildingThe Humane Society is a chartered member and is a nonprofit organization. The shelter is open 7 days a week from 9-5 p.m. and is attended by a Veterinarian, and technician. Vaccinations, neutering etc. are performed most days by appointment. If you decide to adopt one of these furry delights to take home with you, I recommend checking with your airline first. Most major airlines will permit "pet passengers" with a specifically sized carrier. The Humane Society does the necessary paperwork for your pet to travel over the border. If you are not interested in adopting a pet, please come by and make a donation. Even a $15 USD donation buys a lot of food for these fluffy critters. The facility is clean and the animals are loved.
