Cozumel nightlife is alive and well! And new venues are constantly changing. Most veterans of the island will remember "Joe's" as being the only live music venue here. However, a lot has changed since the fantastic "80's"! Below you will find every nightlife, live music venue on the Cozumel as of February 28th, 2012. I will of course update this page as things change. Also, make sure to check out the slide show link at the bottom of the page for more pictures of all of these nightlife venues.
The newest bar in town is called Love. The band actually owns it. They were the contract band for the Hard Rack Cafe here on Cozumel about 10 years ago. Love is located on the water just north of the airport road. It is a large Palapa Bar/Restaurant/night club. If you are into Classic Rock, Hard Rock, and some reggae, this is definitely the night club for you.
Here is a sample video that I took so you would know what to expect:
If you are looking for the perfect night time beach
club you will love Tapatapita Denmedio! You can
learn to dance traditional Cuban or "Salsa Lime" on
Fridays from 9:30 till 11:00!
From 11:00 pm until as late as 3:00 am move your
hips to the afro-salsa rhythms of Jorge Aquino Y La
Banda Fuerza Latina. Jorge who plays the trombone
and is the musical director actually graduated from
the prestigious Cuban Music conservatory. This is a
must see band if you want to hear great Salsa while
on the island.
The address is Costera Sur KM 2.85 (across from Papa
Hogs)
The Corona Sports bar will give
you a real shot of local culture. The band (Karma)
plays on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights now. Most sets at all clubs are 45 minutes
on stage followed by 15 to 20 minutes off stage.
Corona Sports bar is mainly known for being less
expensive then all the other bars in town as it
relates to drinks. The kitchen closes at 12
midnight.
The Corona bar is now located in
Plaza California, between Casa Denis and Melody on 1
ra calle (the pedestrian walk going east/west
on the north side of the town square) between 5th
and 10th Avenue. You can spot the flag in front.
Bamboo ceilings with an imported
beach with a totally great Salsa band make Tiki Tok
one of the best live music Salsa venues on the
island; without a doubt!
Music is live from 10:00 pm till
2:00 am on Thursday and 11:00 pm till 3:00 am on
Friday and Saturday.
The house band is called "La
Explosion Latina". They definitely get the house
hopping. This is the perfect place to dance on a
packed dance floor!
Tiki Tok is located on the water
front (Melgar) between Calle 2 and 4. Second floor.
Or just follow the music when you get close!
Are you ready to break with tradition? Well here is
a Tuesday night live music event that you will not
want to miss. It is the No Name Bars open mike
night. If you have REAL talent and want to show
everyone what you know, perhaps Grant will give you
an opportunity to step up to the microphone. But
remember, this is not just an ordinary Tuesday
armature night! These are REAL entertainers just
getting down! Click on the photo to the right for
more details!
The
Hard Rock Cafe on Cozumel has the
dubious honor of being the "Worlds
Smallest Hard Rock"! As you walk up
the memorabilia filled stairs to the
club upstairs, you can enjoy pieces
of musical history. Once in the club
you can rock to the sounds of the
house band which is rotated every 6
months. The night I went was the
night they were changing over, but
one thing is for sure; they do get
great young talent from the mainland
to rock your socks off. The menu is
what you would expect from Hard
Rock. My favorite is the "Jumbo
Combo" plate, which is a sampling
Señor Frogs is more of a DJ music
venue then a live music venue; but takes the top
spot as the islands premier "meat market"! Lots of
land sharks here!
Music starts at 11:00 with the
four piece house band playing (named "Devine"). They
play three sets on Friday and Saturday nights. The
sets last 1/2 hour with 1 hour in between with the
bump and grind music that you would expect.
Señor Frogs is located upstairs from Carlos n'
Charlie's (also owned by the same company) and is
part of the Punta Langosta shopping center.
Every Sunday the Town Square comes alive! If you really want to
get the flavor and culture of Cozumel this is a must
see event.
There is a band that plays in a Gazebo just as they have done for decades. Only these days
they actually sound MUCH better. I highly recommend
this for families and children of ALL ages!
Music in the square is always on Sunday starting at
9:00 PM. And there are always special events during
the high season too; especially during Carnival!
You can also catch some stage acts in the new Plaza in front of the Palacio. Across from Margaritaville.

more pictures of the nightlife and clubs featured in this
article, just click here!
I hope that you will find this live music guide
helpful and entertaining! Just please remember to
drink responsibly and have a designated driver. I've
heard that the Mexican jail here on Cozumel is not
exactly owned by the Marriott Corporation! :-)

Bob Rodriguez
